Beta Application

Are you interested in becoming an Emergency Beta?

Do you have an evening or an afternoon each week to spare?

What is involved?

Our betas are required to give quick quality feedback when answering questions. It is important that our betas are versatile and have a good knowledge of anything from punctuation to summary composition.

We answer questions using three things: gchat, email, and Twitter. Our betas get access to a Google Intranet, where we keep all the information they might need in order to successfully function within the service.

The questions we receive might be anything from basic “Should there be an apostrophe in ‘its alright,'” to “When is it wrong to use ‘he and I’?” It is important that even if the beta knows the answer that she has a rule to back it up, so we encourage all our betas to google, even when not in doubt.

Some shifts are busier than others, so sometimes our betas have all the time in the world to beta that chapter or read that update while on duty. All we ask is that our betas check Twitter and our inbox regularly while on duty.

Want to be an EBS Boot Camp Beta?

The Boot Camp beta application is on the way! Follow us on Twitter and/or subscribe to our site to get the news as soon as it becomes available.

What are the requirements?

We require you to be:

  • able to donate at least 5 hours and 2 shifts a month for EBS services;
  • friendly and patient, as some questions are either more basic or more confusing than others;
  • actively checking our Twitter @s and DMs, our email inbox, and gchat;
  • fun and loving (or bitter and frowny but a good faker).

The beta application touches upon all the basic questions: grammar, punctuation, teasers, phrasing, and insignificant plot points. All you have to do is answer it to the best of your ability, and we will be in touch about the results. We require our betas to get at least 80% on the test.

If you don’t pass the test, don’t worry. Keep working on your grammar and come back later to try again. No “no” is definitive 😉
